Our Story

Built in the Desert.
Rooted in Tradition.

Haida art pattern

Mark Lowe grew up on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia — surrounded by towering cedars, ocean air, and the rich indigenous art traditions of Canada's Pacific Northwest. It was there, immersed in the visual language of the Haida and Coast Salish peoples, that Mark first fell in love with woodworking and formline design.

Over 40 years of working wood — chisels, gouges, drawknives — taught him the patience the form demands. Eventually he ventured south to the California desert, set up a workshop in Sky Valley, and founded Oasis Designs Woodcrafts to do nothing but the work he loves: hand-carving stools, panels, medallions, and heirloom commissions in the Haida tradition.

No CNC. No production line. Every piece is sketched freehand, carved by hand, finished by hand, and signed before it leaves the shop. The wood remembers — Mark's job, as he puts it, is to listen.
